Evaluation Activity 3

Our Film is a Gangster Themed action film, which is aimed at mainl males over the age of 15. Working class males may be more interested because of the dialogue and overall action style. The opening shows a variety of shots from various angles.

We are a Independent film company- ID productions and we will try to keep all of production, distribution and marketing within the company as muxh as possible. Over the last decade especially they have become more popular in the postmodern era, so hopefully the new interest will hopefully sell the films.

A large part of the marketing and distributing be things such as social networking use sites such as facebook and myspace to increase awarness and build popularity and create a enigma!

Technologies and equipment used

Camcorder

This help us improve organisation skills by making sure we booked one out for a available time and making sure that we had two batteries encase of emergencies!

We also learnt new skills when using the camera

Tripod

Once you get use to using the tripod it can be useful when you get used to using it because it can allow you to do some interesting shots from different angles.

Garage Band

Garage band is a program available on the Macs that can help create music, we used this to good affect to make a successful song for our film, we believe the song has help our film!

Apple Mac

The Apple mac is a program in which we created our final film, this allows use to use a movie making program to edit our filming, add music and titles.

PhotoShop Elements

Photoshop is a picture editing software, we used photo shop to create the ident for our film it allowed us to create a affective logo

Evaluation Activity 4

Example of someone who would watch our film

This is Steve, he is 25 and living Currently in Birmingham as a graphic designer, after graduating from Manchester University in Graphic Design, he is currently only working part-time due to the recession he is struggling to obtain a full time job, This means he has plenty of time on his hands. His hobbies are things such as Partying, clubbing, going to shows, cinema visits etc. Going to the cinema is something Steve enjoys to do alot and will go at least two times a month his favourite type of films are Action, thriller and depending on the style Gangster, his favourite films are The Godfather Trilogy, Dawn of the Dead and most James Bond films. He dislke romantic films although he would watch a Romantic comody if he had to. At the moment he is enjoying having all the free time but wants to get a full time contract because of financial issues. His Media intrests consist of watching the TV specifically TV dramas, He doesent listen to the radio unless looking for the latest news.

Steve would enjoy our film because of the modern feel with old fashioned aspects, also it will moments of action, drama, conflict, betrayal and uneasy which are all things that happen in Steve favourite films this film will also offer something different!

Evaluation Activity 5

In this video it shows the parts of our film that I personally think are good and not so good by using anotations from the youtube site.

Evalution Activity 7

The 1st minute I think is a brilliant in the terms of the camera angles that are used as wed used point of view shot and the type of music; they both link together and bond very well. I made the music had as I do DJ sometimes so Ian agreed I would be more experienced in the work.
We wanted the film smooth, maverick, and sharp with the music, camera angles, and settings which I think we achieved very well, the understanding of the film and miser en scene we covered very well.

The best parts was the impact and drama of the film, on 1:42 to 1:52 was probably the best shot we done, it was quick of the mark and powerful in getting the ending right.

Some sketchy parts was the 1:00 to 2:00 some of the shots were to fast and didn’t as good as we could of done and the fighting was a bit poor but we came up with solutions of sound affects and editing which wasn’t too bad, it was a second flash really and the audience could have a better picture if we added another second on.

Overall I am Impressed =).

Evaluation Task 2

Evaluation Task Two

In this document it looks at the major similarities and differences between a important character in our film Thomson and Bullet proof Tony from Snatch.

Evaluation Tasks

For the final 20 marks of the project, you must complete seven tasks on your blog, posting them in this order, with the question heading at the top of each task. You may do them as a pair/group, but must post individual copies on each blog. Make sure you answer each question as well as producing the visual elements. Try not to write more that 1500 words in total.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings)

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

7. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Our sponsorship for our film:

Soon as our film starts there has to a sponsorship of the making of the film so in our lesson we had to come up with a logo that provides this information, this will get more extra marks and also make our opening of a film more professional.

This is what me an Ian came up with:

Because our film was a type of action of action film we wanted a form of it in this section, but then i me an Ian wanted a kind of abstract and professional looking creation so i used paint shop pro to bring out the textures and affects upon these elements. How we came up with the name 'ID productions' is that we looked our our names and my name starts with a D and Ian name starts with and I so ID came to mind straight away and then as we are pro ducting something then i came up with the productions part and then put in the middle as it was the most affective place to put it and people can see what it is.
Also i added lens flares to reflect the image and make it stand out more being shiny and blends in with the crystallized guns.

Will we use this at the intro of our opening film probably about 3-5 second into it.

New characters for our final piece

Looking at the feedback and now the new storyboard me and Ian have made a close decision to change the cast abit we are keeping the same characters "Smig rogers" and also "Ricky" and "Thompson" its just they need spicing up a bit.
When we were thinking and looking back on the draft of the film we found the character to sarcastic that it didn't make them look or show an intimidating side to them, but the people like the acting and accents.
So looking at our characters this is what we came up with:

Smig:
  • Needs a hat - the reason why we need a hat for this character is because it hides his identify as a role model of a character, with smig having red it was good in a way of having the over the top factor but me an Ian wanted a character that only come out of the dark and is very anonymous and we wanted to show the best possibility of the this, so using the hat it will cover the red hair and bring out a more thuggish type of character and change the appearance dramatically.
It will bring out this kind of effect in smig and I think make him look more overpowering and the actor has the right outline of body posture after people has said from watching the movie and also the teachers.
I think the clothes are still perfect for this characters maybe try and get a leather jacket though and the glasses are to over the top again and doesn't bond with the new character in stock.

  • Accent - It just needs to be a bit more louder and clearer and change the accent to a more kind of strong affect to show off his character intimidation. Also some of the line are too cocky and sound very cheesy so we need to take that into consideration next time as well.

Ricky - Ricky is a perfect character but we need him to be more arragessive in his body language like in the storyboard we need close up's of him banging the table or grabbing smig and threating him every time he trys annoy him and keeps nagging him in a stong voice and the eye contact in the draft is perfect as well.

Thomson - He needs to be a lot more argrssive and a mean and clever tough nut which is what we got in stock for our next film, i think the clothes in the last one is more better it just we had the same actor for it so we need a new one so someone who is tall and has a sharp face and strong jesture in body language and size. He going to be like an evil twin to smig and he WANTS this breifcase.

The character should look like this -

So with this new cast is makes the film more hard hitting and sharper in its acting and enviroment of the opening and shows off the film from the very start, more impact and dramatic which will hopefully gives us more marks =).

New Storyline for opening

Me and Dan have now changed our idea for a film opening however keeping the same important components for example the same characters and the same idea of the interigation room and the story revolving around a briefcase and its contents.

The main changes we have made is that the film will be shown cross cutting from the interigation room to the outside action!

We are currently getting all our thumbnails together and will then be getting our dates ready to film , we aim to be completely filmed by the end of next week, giving us the final week to edit and get it right!

Wednesday 3 March 2010

Feedback form draft work:

Looking at the feedback that was provided I found myself quite alot of errors:
  • We need a parallel editing - more accuracy and more of a meaning
  • The interview needs more factors to make it look more realistic
  • Need accurate reverse shot and remember the 180 rule
  • Our fight scene needs ALOT of readjusting as me and Ian thought it was rubbish
  • People have found the red hair distracting within the film, not a good role model maybe, maybe a hat needs to been worn.
  • More close ups and also add an affect in.

So looking at these errors there very clear to read and can be handled very easily and when i looked back on our film draft i came up with loads of new ideas aswel.

Scene 1- Interview:

Looking at the interview i looked very basic with the shot being put into place, we need the camera angles way much more sharper to bring out the rough side image of the character smig and the sharpness. Also prob needs to used more , we need a tape so it looks more realistic and one person in our class commented on the window in the background and a interrogation room needs to be just 4 walls which i agree with. Also maybe a timer would be at the top left hand side of the screen so it looks more realistic and affective aswel. Also the character smig need to be more arrogant and i think needs to wear a hat this time as last time i thought he was just abit unrealistic to read. We need more lines and more staght forward and snappy.

Scene 2 - Flashback:

I wasn't really impressed with this scene to be honest i thought it was rushed and not taken into consideration. For starters smig does not need the glasses as it does not make the chactarter yet again i think a grey hat would work again. The character of tom needs to be changed as we had the same person doing Ricky in the interview and people could spot him easily so we need a new actor. Also the fight scene was a complete shambles it needs to be more graphic punches and kicks placed realistically and accurate and more shouting needs to be included. The onlty thing i liked in the scene is when four finger Jones punched him and the point of view shot but we did lose that. I think what we need to do is make the fight scene alot more reckless and affective in every single detail as possible, also when handing over the briefcase we could instead get a low shot of feet walking from both character and then meet and then hand the briefcase over in a mid shot and then walks the opposites ways. So just a more accurate word planning and also affective fights will work a charm and camera angles and role play needs to be more affective.

So what to do now?

Now i look back on the flim i can see lots of errors and lots of new ideas the when they said parralel editing i now think that scene 1 and 2 can be mixed in when they talk about the events it can flick onto the event that being placed and also a shot of smig looking into the briefcase and the way he expresses his feeling over it can give an effective enigma code for the audience and says you dont want to know what in the breifcase. Also i think smig needs a bit more attitude to himself and comes across a more unreckonigned character and itimmtidating to others. Maybe a weapon needs to be in jones hands when hitting smig as dont look realistic. And the 180 rule needs to work to settle with a good grade. Also our ID productions can go at the start of the flim and people names go at the start with maybe a close up of smig walking to the interview room, this will make the flim more professional in its layout of work.

And also looking at our research the storyboard needs to be on the blog for a higher grade level, and photos of the character / front cover page.

Film feedback and Targets

From our feedback we have realised that we need to do a few things to get it to are desired level. First of all we need to parallel edit which will make it look more affective. Also we need to use a actual breifcase to use instead of the holdall bag we used to improve its accurarcy and it may help the film if we show the audience what is inside the beifcase.
For when we film the interview scene again, we could add extra props to improve the mise en scene, and maybe some extra close ups in this scene.
The next thing that obviously needs work is the fight scence. and another suggestion is that we fim the whole fim in black and white because of Dans red hair could be distracting to the audience!!

Filming

Today we filmed the first scene of our film opening, we only came across one or two problems such as lighting, which were easily avoided, by finding a room with enough light so that we could film! Another problem we were having was finding a suitable room because the room we would choose had to be reasonably bare so that nothing would affect the affect we were trying to give, once we found the room it was just a matter of getting things set out how we wanted it to be.
When filming as we were following our thumbnails we added the odd shot here and there to help improve the quality and variety of shots being used! We will next be filming on Monday and if everything goes to plan, we will only need to film again if some shots dont look as good as we would of liked.

Thursday 28 January 2010

Types of accents used for our film.

As our film is a English type of gangsta film (snatch) we need a strong accent from the south, from looking at my southern and northern research (look on my blog) i found out that southern would be the best form to go into to as they have more stronger and clearer voices. The only problem is if our actors can pull it off.

But then from watching snatch I found some accent that they use would be perfect for our opening scene:

SMIG: Turisk from snatch is a perfect fro the voice of Smig, i just think abit more crud and duller and it will be perfect for our main character as the accent brings out a strong and thuggish tone and makes the character and matches with his clothes and style. As I am playing smig I can do this kind of accent so we don't need to worries about miming it or looking for another which would of been hard for this type of character.

RICKY: For Ricky is a hard decision as we need his character to be intimidating but formal at the same time so we came up with the voice of formal but deep and aggressive, so a angry sort of tone is used for this action, this makes the character intimidating and commanding.

THOMPSON: This we found this accent very easy to sort out all we need is a butch and strong and arrogant cockny to make him look like a stereotype thug and outlaw. So who no other than Vinnie Jones accent, as Thompson is a part time drug dealer in our film role its perfect for what we are aiming for.

HUNTER: Looking at hunter we went risky with his accent because his character don't really resemble anyone and is not a good stereotype, as this character is big and immitdating to other we need a low and deep voice and a hint of cockny or gangsta type. We only thing we can link hunters voice with is from zombieland of the voice of woody harrelson or if the person whos acting cannot pull of the accent then we simply go for a deep and strong tone, not to over the top a formal and clear voice. Or we could be risky and go for the voice of 'Boris the Blade' but the accent of the tone may not match the character backgorund but that could be our last resort.

4 FINGER JONES: Does not have line remains quite this will bring out a character within not saying a word and keeps to himself.
So with these ideas of accent we now can think of a more visual idea and is easier to read to story out and sort out the lines for the scirpts.

Moodboard for our film

This is the moodboard we have genertaed through mine and Ians ideas. What we did to get this outcome is the me and Ian came up with classic gangsta films and propps to look at, then we copyed the images from google and save them into my pictures, from there i went on paint and cutted pieces of the images out which i thought would work and give us a mind map of what we are aiming to get in our final design. So these are all little ideas that give us back up if we spill up somewhere, also we can use scene from these for a weapons, acting propps, setting, mise en scene etc.
Also for a little effect using paint shop pro i made the pictures stand out more so the moodboard wasnt dull and boring and also it gives us ideas for our poster for our final design also.
So bascially a funky mind map of ideas we can progress and more upon =).

Sound effects or music for our film.

A film always need a form of sound for action role play in any genre and setting:
Our film is to do with gangstas so we need to consider that guns are fired, maybe explosions occur, and shouting is involved.
Now when me and Ian were looking at this type of activity its a kind of problem to us, as we want our film as successful as possible, the guns and explosion noises are easy to cover but the major task was do we need a hint of music towards it and will it be effective??

We could of used soundtracks today but due to copyright we cannot be allowed to represent in our film we had a major impact on what we chosen?
So we had to look at other various things, we first looked at films but action films as it gives us a more easier choice and idea of what music needs to played either during a fight scene or when a major dilemma occurs m, maybe a powerful classical or a heavy and effective sound from a guitar.

So looking at films we came across this which we think is good in some ways:

So from this clip we get these types of forms:
Right at the start we get the sound of 10 machines guns going off, so me and Ian now have a idea what impact and devices it gives off to make it effective, this type of action could be used anywhere really and the sound is not to loud and not to silent which is good for an example.

From 0.22 you can hear the footstep of running which indicates that a type of action is coming into place and then the music starts to come into play and sounds of impact.

SOUNDS OF IMPACT: Hearing the sound of impact on this film they sound the weapons are being swung at a fast and high pace, this shows the impact of the anger within the character and how much it could hurt or kill. Also it indicates movement and can be fighting with weapons or just hand to hand combat which helps us more towards finding the best outcome.

TYPE OF MUSIC: The type of music that's been used for this clip is very effective but it may not be for the type of our film, the music for this clip blends very well with what goings on, its not out of place and not annoying and the type of music is classical, classical can show emotion of fights and passion of fight which goes well with maxtrix and it futuristic action. But it gives us a example of how music can blend into a fight scene we just need to find the right ingredients and genre to get ours.

So looking at our part we looked at the opening scene of snatch again and listened to the backing tune in the background and we thought........

SOUND EFFECTS FOR OUR FILMING: We found this was easy to come up with. As it gangsta type of film we need gun shots bangs crashes shouting and the sudden quietness when the action.

So what we're looking for is the sound of gun shots which is easy to encounter and from the example clip we can pick up the perfect sounds, we might come across a car scene but the only problem is no one can drive and we cant crash a car just for a movie clip as it costs a bomb to fix.

So we are looking for different routes for that maybe we have a character walking and then we put in the sound of car crash and then the camera moves the way the sound went.

Also from the maxtix clip we found that sounds of footstep starts off a action scene so we will use this as we are using a action scene.

The sounds of hands swinging we may do it shows the force of the punch but it may not be realistic and go with our film, but as we want abit of over the top we could use it.

DO WE NEED A MUSIC TYPE FOR THIS FILM?: To be honest I dont think it we need it, i think a sudden rush of guns and sounds of impacts will fit perfect and clean spoken lines for a characters when fighting a good example of this is

So from this we can see the impact the weapons and gun shot surrounded can make a scene effective effective and successful, (ok there a hint of sound in the background) but the loudness of the impact covers over that, i say the louder the better.
Also when will smith dives and they use the effect of the bullet I think it's a brilliant effect of the bullet it shows the impact of a bullet and what it can do and also how the sound is transfered to this bullet makes it more effetive in ways of the impact and movement and the slow motion makes it whole idea, so if we can we might use this to slow the action and pase down and show how effective one character can be (maybe hunter or smig). (PS sorry for use of swear words and any things that harms your ears :P).

RESULTS: After me and Ian had a discussions about this in a lesson we came to a decision of just loud action, our film genre could use music but its not effective as a rush of action and lots of gun shots and sound, as our film is over the top action and gangsta we think its better just to have clean in your face loud action from start to end, just like the example of bad boys =).

Target Audience

When thinking about what age range to aim our film at, I looked at other film with the same genre such as Snatch and the Godfather.

When looking at this film we saw that it has a balance between comedy and violent action and this film was rated as a 15.

Looking at the Godfather this fil has a high level of violence and lots of drama which will be aimed at a higher age auidience and was given the rating
18.

This Film Scarface is very similar to the godfather film for high levels of violence it also has some catchy lines which makes the film effective this film was also given the age rating
18.

Although all 3 of these films are of the same genre they will all atract different audiences, for example snatch will attract a younger audience because of its slight comical aspect, and the age range is for 15 year olds so will be aimed at 15 year olds plus.

The Godfather will be aimed at people who like old fasioned violent movies set in the past, and also will like the idea of the Mafia storylines. This film being an 18 shows that it is aimed at a higher age range maybe be of 20 plus.

Scarface is aimed at people who like a film with action, drama and no messing around. Scarface is like this because it cut straight to the chase and you no were you are in the film! This like the godather is an 18 and will be aimed at 20 plus.

Audience Feedback on Pitches:

Looking at people points of view and I'm to be honest impressed with the errors we have made, now it gives me a more in depth idea of what we need improve on.

Looking through the feedback sheets me an Ian found out these issues:

  • Ian has been suggested to do Smig due to his appearance
  • Don't name the place lutterworth
  • Smig doesn't sound realistic due to his name

These are the issues we encountered and what they need to sorted about it, me and Ian came up with these solutions:

Smig in our eyes is a unpredicted character on the acting terms so we have to take this into consideration. So what we decided to do is for me and Ian and me and maybe James act out one scene being the character Smig and then looking back on the errors and see what people think, the problem we think is that if Ian is Smig who is going to be Hunter has he is a big and intimidating character which I think is perfect for Ian.

The second is very easy to fix up all we need to do is to descripe and my by find a gang slang term of the street / town for e.g thug ville or gangstas path etc. So me and Ian need to upload some scene picture and take it from there.

And the last one I like is because people have fallen into our kind of trap, the reason why we called the main character Smig because it is a sort and slick and go under a nickname and sounds thuggish aswel. Also our genre is like snatch action smooth and silk acting and unpredictable character which why Smig is a good name as its unusal and confusing which grabs people attension and is like "who Smig and what is Smig" which me and Ian think is a good technique. Maybe we could say Steve the Smig but then it like.

But overall we are please with these mistake encounters that now we have errors and we can produce them to make them even better and makes the film more successful.

3 colour scheme

In this film we want to keep every thing as simple as possible and as we are creating a typical gangsta film with a scene of posh action and over the top we want to keep the picture as clear as possible.

The reason why we have come with a 3 colour scheme is that the auidence can enjoy the film in the best quailty as possible there not to much colour to disturb the picture (this may sound very indepth but it works!).

We did look at a action film named hero and this clip shows a contrast in colour which we thought was a pretty good idea at start:

In the 1st minute we see to good guys fight of a intire army, but we the colour scene of green, bright and easy to spot out, so what the director has done is put them in light colours so when they are in the fighting scene they stand out to a whole crowd and is more visible to see where the fighting is and the more "impact factor" upon it.

Then at 1:00 a very cleaver and epic setting is used green sheets are used for this fight scene, this could relate to the curtrual as china is a very mstical place and is full of wonder which this effect in the film relates and works very well in this type of film. Also the costume that the good guy has on gives him a upper advantage for camoflarsh and makes the film more affective and exciting due to tense action, also the film is over the top fighting which shows off a even more in depth example towards our final design as we want a hint of over the top action.

But then when we where looking at our type of film there to muchs colours going on and as ours is a gangsta type of film we needed a grimey and dull setting but a hint of over the top - which red is a bright colour and is the symbol of blood (also is a common colour).

So the colours that I will think work and Ian has agreed on is blue, black, and red.
The resason why we choosed these colours are:

Light beach Blue: It's a formal but kind of bright / dull look, its a sort of calm and bland hint and it most effective for the charater ricky and also the sky (daylight). It could also be used as a twist someone may look nice and formal in a blue t shirts but on the inside of them they could be part of a gang which ricky is involved in.

Black: Dark and dull brings out the rough side and atmosphere, perfect use for the clothes on hunter, smig, and four finger jones. Also Black is the color of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light so the picture for the setting will be easy to watch upon. Also it could bring outs the phyical side and rough stereotypes which we need. Also it brings out posh cars and guns which is perfect for our film e.g. James bond.

Red: Brings out the loudness of the film, loud and in your face, red is a bright colour and is easy to use in this type of film. It resembles blood, anger, crazyness, fire etc. Also Red is any of a number of similar colors evoked by light consisting predominantly of the longest wavelengths of light discernible by the human eye. So what it does is out goes all the colurs and makes you see the impact from such things as blood splatters and explosions which i said blends well and effective with our film.

So from this we can aim at the main colours to make our scene alot more easier and also back-ups some question on why we choose this kind of setting.

People who are playing the cast.

Daniel Bailey - Smig due to my hair style for a start long red and messy, scatty type, physical outlook so that could relate to background life which makes the stereotype of the character. Also sharp narrow face effective for our main character.

James Buckley - Ricky and Thomson - the team. James has a good use of drama as he does A levels so we chosen him for the off putting character as we called because we know he can pull it off, as he has short cut hair another physical build and a old typed thug looking face he looks perfect for Thomson. Also James as he my friend has many style so if we put a formal outlook on Ricky on him in sure we can pull him off to.

Ryan Harrison - Four finger Jones - Why because he small slim and can look quick the same role as this character in the film, he might not has a good acting role but facial expressions a one line sentences are only needed for this character and as he has ginger hair ginger so it good for this type of character as hes gangsta based so the hair has to be formal or crazy.

Kieran Kirby - Hunter - Hunter we need as a small typed but built character, he has a dangerous face and sharp sentences which stings the audience most of the time, give full eye contact like a hawk and waits for his pray and leaves, and this is why we think Kieran is good for this enrolment.

Character Roles

Brief introduction to the Characters

Main Character- SMIG, he will be wearing a Long black coat and act in a suspicious manner, but this is because of his circumstances. He will be carrying a briefcase with Documents inside known by many to be of great importance and value. He feels great pressure carrying the briefcase and even fears for his life.

RICKY- Twisted past as he used to be a drug dealer, but now is will act as the the one with the clean and sharp appearence but will take no nonsense and will be strict if needed to be. He will play the role of the interrogator. He will be dressed in a formal manor e.g white shirt maybe blue, with jeans and old fashioned shoes, being dressed like this will help with his clean and sharp appearance.

THOMSON- Head of "The Team" a Ruthless gang, Arrogant personality, and will stop at nothing to to get what he wants which in the instance is the briefcase. He will be wearing a leather jacket and dark jeans, with boots.

HUNTER- He will be quit and cleaver, and keep himself to himself, but as all the characters will get his opinion across if needed, he will be dressed formally but as if in disguise. He and his partner will play a large part in the successfulness of the "The Team"

FOUR FINGER JONES- The assistant to Hunter, and is an opposite to Hunter because he is a bit of a psycho and big fan of violence. will be wearing glasses, untidy hair, and a typical gangster Jacket.

Lighting effects camera angles and acting for our scenes.

LIGHTING EFFECT:

Looking at our film editing we need to consider the lighting effects for our scenes.

Now the start scene is 2 actors in one room, Smig has been pulled in to have an interview with a police officer, so really looking in lighting terms we need a dull room (maybe blue as the colour of the walls to represent a typical crime scene investigation). The lighting has to remain dull at all times to keep the atmosphere effective and useful. Or maybe a dull background and the light shining on the actors to make them visible to the audience
A perfect example is from blade 3 when he taken in for the mirders of vampires and humans.

(This clip will be used to analyisis all of the effect).

So looking at the lighting effects on this clip from blade the room is birght white which makes then characters stand out and visible to see. The light almost shines onto the characters to adds an effect of them talking, looking at it maybe 3 or 4 light have been used for this kind of effect and atmosphere. Also shadows in the background are used to to balanced type of atmosphere that only these characters are here and no one else.

CAMERA SHOTS:

Soon as the scene starts a birdseye view is used, this shows where it is and how big the room is and where trhe villain is put into place. (Looking at the room its a varible size for good camera angles).

Also the camera is twisting into the villians face which adds more suspension and more of an atmosphere on the character.

Then a staright reverse shot is used and mostly throughout this scene, its the most easiest and most successful way of really doing this type of scene, also closes up and zooms in are used to describe the emotions of the characters, if it zooming in something has been said that rattles the villians, and if it zooms out maybe the interview is calm and understanding (but thats boring!).

Also a low angle is used on the investigators to show that its thier room and their interviewing this villain weather he likes it or not, this gives power to the these characters and can use and show of power to find out the message of the scene.

ACTING IDEAS:

Looking at the acting perspective of this clip its snaps straight into action, a sudden clap of hand is kind of a signature to start the scene and wake up the atmosphere. The clap of hand shows a slight sudden reaction to the character and audience in a way to pay attention which could be useful for our project maybe.

Also full eye contact is used when all character are talking to one another but sometimes the villian,

Looking around 1:00 minute a overview shot is used, the villian is there but also you see the inspectors hand moving, this shows a coversation between these two characters and its important to listen to it as it tells the main parts of the storys this could work for our 1st scene.

The light though is mostly foucused on the close up of these tow characters so what i does is draws the audience to listen and watch these character as they are telling the story line or something important is being said, there's no point of taking the light of these people or the audience will not pay as much attension on whats being said as you cannot see them clear which we will use for our flim.

This idea will only work for the interigation part of the scene so in the 2 part is daytime so really we don't need to worrie about the effects of lighting, just the colour or clothes and mis en scene blend and stand out.

So from this research we have now found how we encounter problem if we do come across lighting effect issues and how to focus the camera in different ways to interest audiences by using lighting. (Maybe we could even change the colour for more dramatic effect).

An open example of a good film opening for our project.

Looking at our main project looking through a various amounts of flim we think snatch is a perfect opening for us.

Looking through the opening scene of snatch the storyline is pretty much the same as ours, all of the characters within the film are routing for the dimond thats worth 24 carrots gold, with our film Smig has a important breifcase with something inside it with what everyone wants. Also looking at the body language and gesters its perfect to take ideas from and to generate withing our acting for the scene, maybe editing it we could pause frame and change the quilty of the picture maybe a added different background using effects such as colour contrast and the names of the characters or a pop arty effect which snatch has used and then role on the clip, with this affect it shows us the charater, the type of flim its going to be (formal / informal) and also maybe a effect on the price procession.

We could do about 20 seconds or maybe 30 off this effect and maybe do a following edit as they use in hollywood editing, this could make the film effective and more successful of telling the story.

Also the costumes that they wear is perfect for what we want to use and represent our styles of charaters, a typical long coat, thug looking, long and posh shoes, ties, and old fashioned jeans. Looking at "turisk" its an perfect element to make our character "smig" to look like and stereotyping him in the easiest way as possible.

Also looking at the diamond it says snatch on it, now the text has a basic meaning "snatch this diamond and be rich" which we could use on the breif case, maybe a pause shot and zoom into the breifcase and look for a definition of it but make it look like the story.

Our setting is really the same as snatchs, streets and runned down places so there no much to really cover and get ideas from, only the lighting is all we need which is in the other decription.

Overall this is an basic mind map of a good start to our project and using the 1st scene we have found a lot of ideas from it.

Weapons and Gadgets Used In Action Films

film examples I'm am going to look at are Batman and James Bond

The type of weapons used in action films obviously vary depending on what type of action is being portrayed in the film.

Batman

In the Batman films they use very unusual weapons and are weapons that help them selves instead of hurting their enemies, such as the Baterang which is just a simple coiled rope attached to the bat symbol use to save himself from fall and to swing away from enemies, this would be found attached to his suit, The suit has also carried on different occasions a re-breather device, flash and gas grenades, explosives and a detonator, lockpicks, a signaling device for the Batmobile, electronic surveillance equipment (including video camera and monitor), a forensic kit for gathering crime scene evidence, a medical kit, a small toolkit, a cache of money and, in early incarnations, a pistol in a holster. Weapons like this me and Dan will not be able to use because of time and what is available to use and money!

James Bond

In James Bond the weapons used are generally the kind of weapons you would normally associate with a Action film. e.g Pistols, machine guns etc
But being a Spy for the British government he had his fair share of gadgets.
InDr. No, Bond's sole gadgets were a Geiger Counter and a wristwatch with a luminous (andradioactive) face. The gadgets, however, assumed a higher profile in the 1964 film Goldfinger. The film's success encouraged further espionage equipment from Q Branch to be supplied to Bond. In the opinion of critics, some Bond films have included too many gadgets and vehicles, such as 1979's science-oriented Moonraker and 2002's Die Another Day.

Looking at the types of Weapons and gadgets used in action films we will struggle to find the correct weapons and even if we did I believe we will find it hard to prevent it from looking professional and make it look a little bit tacky as it wont be easy to pull off!
